How to Regrip Your Golf Clubs at Home — The Tapeless Way

Regripping Your Golf Clubs Doesn't Have to Be a Mess

If you've ever regripped clubs the traditional way — with tape, solvent, and a 24-hour wait — you know the frustration. It's messy, time-consuming, and one wrong move can leave a grip crooked or bubbled. There's a better way.

At Star Grip, we've been manufacturing golf grips in the USA since 2001. Our proprietary tapeless installation system was built so golfers could regrip their clubs at home, quickly and cleanly — no solvent, no tape, no drying time. You regrip and you play. That's it.

What Is the Tapeless Installation Method?

Traditional grip installation uses double-sided grip tape and solvent to activate the adhesive and slide the grip onto the shaft. It works — but it takes time to dry, requires proper ventilation, and leaves sticky residue if done wrong.

Star Grip's tapeless method uses compressed air to slide the grip onto the shaft in seconds. No tape. No solvent. No cleanup. The grip seats perfectly every time, and you can swing immediately after installation.

What You Need to Get Started

To use the tapeless method at home, you'll need:

If you're building up shaft diameter for larger hands, our Grip Build-Up Tape ($12.99) is still compatible — apply it first before sliding the grip on with air.

Step-by-Step: How to Regrip Using Compressed Air

  1. Remove the old grip — use our Retractable Hook Blade Grip Cutter ($9.99) to slice the old grip cleanly without damaging the shaft.
  2. Clean the shaft — wipe down any residue left by the old grip.
  3. Apply build-up tape if needed — wrap layers to adjust shaft diameter for your preferred grip size.
  4. Insert the air nozzle — slide it into the small hole at the butt end of the Star Grip.
  5. Slide the grip on with air — hold the grip against the shaft tip, pull the trigger, and slide it down in one smooth motion as the air inflates the grip.
  6. Align and seat — position any alignment ribs or logos as desired. The grip seats instantly.
  7. Play. No drying time. You're done.

Why Golfers in Arizona, California, and Florida Love Tapeless Grips

If you play in a hot climate — Phoenix, Scottsdale, San Diego, Miami, or anywhere the summer heat cooks your grips faster — you know worn grips are a constant problem. The tapeless system makes it fast and affordable to stay fresh all season. No shop appointment. No waiting. Just regrip in your garage and get back on the course.

Star Grip is manufactured and shipped from Chandler, Arizona, so US golfers get fast delivery and direct access to one of the most durable grip compounds in the industry.

How Long Do Star Grips Last?

We back every grip with a 3-Year Grip Guarantee. Our StarTack EPDM compound is engineered for longevity — these grips can literally outlast the clubs they're installed on. For golfers tired of replacing grips every season, that's a significant difference.
